llms.txt
llms.txt is a proposed plain-text file, placed at the root of a website, meant to tell AI systems what the site is about and point them to its most important content in a machine-readable form, an emerging convention for making a site legible to LLMs.
In practice, though, no major AI model uses llms.txt in production today, and its measurable impact on citations is currently negligible (Google has compared it to the long-discredited keywords meta tag). We implement it because it's quick and forward-compatible, but we're honest that it's table stakes, not a growth lever. Anyone selling llms.txt as the key to AI visibility is overstating it.
